VILNIUS – The construction of a logistics and support area has been started in Rukla, in Lithuania's central district of Jonava, the Ministry of National Defense says.

The project is aimed at improving service conditions for the NATO eFP Battle Group and meeting its logistics needs, the ministry pointed out.

The project will include the construction of a service and maintenance area with hangars, a decontamination area with hangars and facilities, a logistic area with storage hangars, office buildings, operation and maintenance building, motor pools, roads, security systems, fencing and related utility supply networks and internal distribution.

The new area will be installed in the territory of a pre-existing technical area in Rukla.

Site preparation works are currently under way, with the German-funded project scheduled to be completed in early 2025.

Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Lithuania has increased its defense funding and allies have deployed more troops in the country.
