VILNIUS – Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda congratulated his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron on his reelection on Sunday night as exit polls showed he won the Sunday vote.
"Dear friend @EmmanuelMacron, congratulations on winning the presidential race! Wishing you strength & courage in leading France in these challenging times for all Europe," Nauseda tweeted, adding that he was looking forward to working together on further strengthening EU, NATO and standing up for democratic values.
Macron received 58.2 percent of votes, according to an Ipsos poll for France Televisions, Radio France, France24-RFI-MCD. And 41.8 percent voted for his rival Marine Le Pen.
In 2017, Macron also met Le Pen in the runoff and then received 66 percent of votes.
