Lithuania's Klaipeda remains Baltics' No 1 container port

VILNIUS - Klaipeda remained the number one seaport in the Baltic countries in terms of container handling in January through July, the port's authority said.

The Lithuanian port handled 256,100 TEUs during the seven months, up 2.4 percent from 250,000 in the same period last year.

TEU traffic in Riga increased by 13.89 percent to 245,200 and Tallinn posted an 8 percent rise to 121,900 units. The Latvian port of Liepaja saw its TEU traffic double to 2,500 units.

Annual TEU traffic via Klaipeda went up by 12.9 percent in 2016 compared with 2015 to reach 443,300 units.
