VILNIUS – Lithuania's electricity distribution company said on Wednesday it was working at full capacity to restore supply to thousands of households left without power due heavy snowfall that hit the country this week.

Virgilijus Zukauskas?, head of the Network Operation Division at Energijos Skirstymo Operatorius (ESO), said the situation in the southeast of the country remained difficult.

"We now have around 50,000 customers without supply," he told BNS.

Zukauskas said over 200 teams, including 80 permanent ones, were working across the country.

The official did not comment on how much it might cost to eliminate the effects of the snowfall.

ESO said earlier on Wednesday that around 50,000 households remained without power, with most outages registered in the regions of Vilnius and Utena.
