Lithuania raises pay for Lithuanian language teachers abroad

The government in February has increased by 50 percent allowances for Lithuanian language teachers in Belarus, Poland and the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad.  Education Minister Algirdas Monkevicius, whose ministry drafted the respective government resolution, says the measure is aimed at bringing their salaries up to the level of their counterparts in Lithuania. "In total, there are 64 of them: 46 in Belarus, eight in Poland and 13 in Kaliningrad, and their salaries are already lower than those of teachers working in Lithuania," he told ...
