Lithuania marks 101st Independence Day

VILNIUS – Lithuania marks its 101st Day of the Restoration of the State of Lithuania on Saturday.

The state's leaders will traditionally honor the memory of the signatories to the Act of Independence at Rasos Cemetery, and a state award ceremony will be held at the Presidential Palace.

On this occasion, a giant Lithuanian flag of 540 square meters will be hoisted at 150-meter height on the TV Tower in Vilnius.

A patriotic youth march, On the Path of Statehood, will also take place in Vilnius from the Cathedral Square to the Basanavicius Square. And a theaterialized march will feature twenty signatories to the Act of Independence.

In the evening, a nationalist march, the March of Firexs, will start at the Gate of Dawn in Vilnius.

Commemorative events will be also held in other cities and town of Lithuania.

On Saturday, the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Lithuanian Partisans Declaration of February 16, 1949 in Minaiciai, Lithuania's northern district of Radviliskis, will also be commemorated. On this occasion, 70 symbolic fires will be lit on Gediminas Avenue in Vilnius, and a march on the partisan path will take place in Radviliskis District.
