VILNIUS - Lithuania has been invited to take part in the Performa Biennial of performance and contemporary art in New York next year.

"This is a format that is really appreciated by both experts and audiences, which is in fact the second in the world after the Venice Biennale," Culture Minister Simonas Kairys told BNS on Monday.

Lithuania has been invited to take part in the biennial's special program Without Borders and to have a national pavilion from on November 1-21, 2025.

"This biennial focuses on two countries in one year. Lithuania has an invitation to participate in this biennial next year. Performa representatives have already had meetings with Lithuanian cultural institutions and this dialogue is already taking place," the minister said.

If Lithuania missed this opportunity now, it would be difficult to "fit in" in the future, he said.

"This is a truly wonderful event. The curators are focusing a lot on developing artistic ideas and exhibiting them at various venues in New York," the culture minister told BNS after visiting the US last week.
