Lithuania backs Armenia's European path, PM says

VILNIUS - Lithuania remains committed to supporting Armenia's drive towards Europe and strengthening bilateral ties, Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevicius said on Tuesday during a telephone call with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

"Lithuania supports the efforts of Armenia and your personal commitment to strengthening democratic reforms, resilience and deepening ties with the European Union. We are ready to share our diverse experience and expand cooperation," Sinkevicius said.

During the conversation, the leaders also discussed the security situation in the region and Europe as Russia continues its military aggression against Ukraine. Lithuania supports practical European Union initiatives aimed at strengthening Armenia's resilience.

Marking one year since the high-level meeting in Washington and the initialling of the peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan on August 8, Sinkevicius emphasised the historical significance of the event, Pashinyan's personal contribution and the efforts of both neighbours, Armenia and Azerbaijan, to achieve long-term, sustainable peace.

The Lithuanian prime minister expressed support for the peace process and voiced expectations for further progress and the normalisation of relations.
