Wolf hunting quota doubles

Lithuania’s Environment Minister Kestutis Treciokas has set the wolf hunting quota at 60 wolves in the 2015-2016 hunting season, up from 33 wolves last season.
Environment Vice-Minister Linas Jonauskas says the new quota was established based on the latest number of wolves, as data from February shows that at least 292 wolves live in forests across Lithuania.
“Under the wolf population management plan approved by the minister, the quota may be set at up to 20 percent of the population, if the population is between 250 and 500 wolves,” the vice-minister told BNS.
On Wednesday, the public organization Baltijos Vilkas (Baltic Wolf) stated that the new quota was too high.
In Lithuania, wolves are a protected species.

Announcing

An English-language announcement has been launched by the Vilnius public transport system, informing foreign passengers about the activation of tickets and the possibility to plan their journey online.
The names of bus stops on buses and trolleybuses will still be announced in Lithuanian, however.
The English-language announcement can be listened to at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CID1zbncRpg.
As of September, bus lines heading to Vilnius Airport are highlighted with a plane symbol in public transport timetables.
