Levits at B9 meeting to speak about beefing up allied presence in Latvia

RIGA - President Egils Levits will today attend a NATO Eastern Flank, or Bucharest Nine (B9), Summit in the Romanian capital Bucharest to agree on a common position regarding allied troops' increased presence in the region, which will be officially adopted at NATO's upcoming summit in Madrid. 

Justine Deicmane, head of the president's press office, told LETA that the meeting of B9 leaders will also focus on the current security situation in light of Russia's war in Ukraine, NATO's expansion plans following the accession bid of Sweden and Finland, as well as the provision of military, humanitarian and other assistance to Ukraine. 

During his working visit to Romania, Levits is also scheduled to have a bilateral meeting with Romanian President Klaus Werner Iohannis.
