Latvijas Valsts Celi releases latest version of Latvia's map of black spots

RIGA - The state-owned road management company Latvijas Valsts Celi today released the latest map of black spots in Latvia, based on data accumulated from 2014 to 2016, of which there are a total of 99 black spots.

A black spot is a one-kilometer road section where at least eight traffic accidents or at least three casualties were registered in 2014-2016.

The Greater Riga Area has the largest number of black spots, and the deadliest one is at the intersection of A1 Highway and P53 road. Six persons died and another five suffered injuries in traffic accidents registered there over the past three years.

The map of Latvia's black spots is revised every three years, the map is also used in planning measures to improve traffic safety.
