TALLINN - Kohila Vineer OÜ, a part of the Latvijas Finieris Group, is launching a large-scale development project in Kohila after the local municipality issued the building permit for the factory's expansion. The total investment will exceed 70 million euros, with 20 million euros to be invested as early as 2026.
The project is a significant step in increasing the group's production capacity and fostering its long-term development in Estonia.
The expansion of the Kohila Vineer plant will further bolster the group's industrial capacity and promote a more efficient use of wood resources across its entire production network. This investment is part of the Latvijas Finieris Group's long-term development strategy, which aims to strengthen industrial capabilities and foster sustainable growth in the Baltic and Nordic regions. Furthermore, the project underscores the group's ongoing commitment to developing a modern, resource-efficient industry and supporting economic activity in Estonia.
"By investing in the Kohila plant, the Latvijas Finieris Group is increasing its production volume of birch plywood products, thereby enhancing production efficiency, improving customer service, and ensuring delivery precision. Concurrently, we are implementing modern technological solutions in our plants, which will help secure competitive jobs," Jānis Ciems, Chairman of the Management Board of Latvijas Finieris, said in a press release.
"The Kohila plant has significantly surpassed its initially designed production capacity. Thanks to our strong and experienced team, we view the plant's expansion as the logical next step to boost efficiency, broaden our product portfolio, and enhance our business performance. Kohila Vineer has the knowledge, capability, and ambition to successfully execute this next phase of growth," remarked Andres Laht, a board member of Kohila Vineer.
The Kohila municipality has issued the necessary building permit to commence construction on the expansion project. A construction contract with leading Estonian construction company Maru Ehitus AS was signed on August 7, and work is set to begin by the end of August. The Kohila Vineer expansion project is therefore moving into the implementation phase. The new production lines are scheduled to be launched in early 2028.
The expansion was designed by Norte OÜ, with the architectural solution provided by Loob Projekt OÜ.
Given the recent uncertainty surrounding Estonia's forestry policy and its impact on the company's operations, Kohila Vineer will not increase its consumption of roundwood in Estonia as a result of the expansion. Instead, the company plans to source additional raw material in the form of veneer produced in other European Union countries within the region.
