Latvijas Banka has transferred a donation of 164 684.52 euro to the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine. These funds have been generated from the sales of the collector coin "For the Freedom of Ukraine" issued in December 2022 and the 2 euro commemorative coin "Sunflower for Ukraine" issued in May 2023 both representing moral and material support to Ukraine in its fight for freedom.

Today, Mārtiņš Kazāks, Governor of Latvijas Banka, and Jānis Blūms, Head of the Cash Department of Latvijas Banka, symbolically presented Anatolii Kutsevol, Ambassador of Ukraine to Latvia, with the proceeds from the sales of both coins. During the meeting, the representatives of Latvijas Banka assured the ambassador that Latvijas Banka would continue to support Ukraine and its nation in its fight for freedom.

"We are keeping up with the news from Ukraine daily, sincerely wishing that Ukraine would drive the invaders out of its land and regain peace as soon as possible. The Ukrainians are also fighting for us, that is why we want to help in every way we can. We thank everyone who purchased Latvijas Banka's coins dedicated to Ukraine! You are helping Ukraine not only morally and symbolically, but also in practice," emphasizes Mārtiņš Kazāks.

Russia's invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022 changed the course of the world's history and deeply shattered all of us. Ukraine continues fighting for its freedom as well as for Western values. The coins "For the Freedom of Ukraine" and "Sunflower for Ukraine" serve as a reminder that one should not grow tired and tolerate what is happening in Ukraine. The freedom of Ukraine is a shared responsibility.

The author of the collector coin "For the Freedom of Ukraine" is a Ukrainian artist Sergiy Maidukov. The artist has chosen to focus the coin's perspective on one single word – ВОЛЯ – that has multiple meanings in his native tongue: FREEDOM; WILL; POWER. Ligita Franckeviča is the author of the coin's plaster model.

The graphic design of the national side of the coin "Sunflower for Ukraine" has been created by artist Krišs Salmanis, while the author of the plaster model is Jānis Strupulis. The author of the coin's common side is artist Luc Luycx, and the material and size of the coins are the same as those of other 2 euro circulation coins.

Everyone who is not indifferent to Ukraine's fate still has a chance to support Ukraine by purchasing the collector coin "For the Freedom of Ukraine" and the commemorative coin "Sunflower for Ukraine" at e-monetas.lv/en and Latvijas Banka Cashier's Offices.
