RIGA - XII Latvian Youth Song and Dance Celebration will be postponed to 2021, as decided by the event's council today, Education and Science Minister Ilga Suplinska (New Conservative Party) said in a press briefing today.
She said that, considering all risk factors, consulting with the diaspora, a decision has been made to postpone the celebration for a year.
So far EUR 4.7 million have been allocated from the state budget for organization of the event. Information is collected about how much money has already been spent in preparations, but the minister said that it could be about EUR 200,000.
The minister said that the Finance Ministry has promised that there will be financing for the Song and Dance Celebration next year.
XII Latvian Youth Song and Dance Celebration were scheduled for July 6-12. Next year the dates designated for the even are July 5-11.
By the end of this school year, all potential participants and organizers of the Youth Song and Dance Celebration will receive further information on the preparation work for next year's event.
As reported, in an effort to prevent Covid-19 from spreading further in Latvia, a state of emergency came into force on March 13, setting a number of tough restrictions.
