RIGA - Latvian President Egils Levits commemorated the Latvian freedom fighters by laying a bouquet at the Riga Brethren Cemetery on November 11, the Lacplesis Day.

"This is the day when we honor our soldiers, our National Armed Forces. Lacplesis Day, the historic day when the Latvian army defeated its enemy, the Bermondtians, was established on November 11, 1919. This is the day when we commemorate the lives of soldiers who died defending Latvia, especially during the War of Independence. It is also the day when we pay tribute to everyone who has died while on international mission joined by free Latvia," the president of Latvia said.

"We, the Latvian people, trust in our armed forces. Our border force and military are under immense pressure coming from the border, and we have full confidence in our troops. Let us all pay our respect to Latvian soldiers. Without them, there would be no Latvia," Levits stressed.
