Latvian Navy allows Russian warships into Latvia's waters

November 17, 2015, saw Latvia allowed two Russian naval vessels seeking refuge from rough seas to enter its territorial waters.

The announcement was made by the Latvian National Armed Forces on Twitter.

Latvia gave permission to the Russian naval vessels to enter its waters after the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC Riga) of the coastguard service received a request from the ships. 

The Russian ships remain in Latvia's waters, and are waiting for the weather to improve. 

They are being monitored by Latvian naval forces.
