Latvian MPs to consider public initiative to ban from abstention in parliamentary votes

The Latvian parliament's Presidium has decided to send to the committee on mandates, ethics and submissions for review the public legislative initiative signed by over 11,000 Latvian citizens to prohibit lawmakers from abstaining in parliamentary votes. The current Rules of Procedure allow members of the parliament to not only vote "for" or "against", but also to abstain from voting. The public initiative calls to delete this option from the rules.
