Latvian Farmers' Union to hold congress

RIGA - The annual Latvian Farmers' Union (LZS) congress will be held with more than 300 members delegated from 52 regional units.

LZS congress participants will have to elect the party's chairman, two deputy chairmen and ten board members.

One candidate has been nominated for the position of the chairman - Viktors Valainis, who currently is the chairman of the Saeima group of the Union of Greens and Farmers (ZZS). Incumbent chairman Armands Krauze will not run for the position.

LZS members will be addressed also by the party's cooperation partners - The Union of the Farmers and Greens from Lithuania, the Latvian Social Democratic Workers Party (LSDSP), the party For Latvia and Ventspils and other guests.

LZS is one of the oldest political parties in Latvia and it has 1,350 members. LZS and LSDSP together form ZZS, and this organization has a cooperation agreement with For Latvia and Ventspils party.
