The Latvian Constitutional Court has ruled that the amendments to the Education Law enabling the authorities to fire teachers, who are found to be disloyal to the state of Latvia, are in line with the Constitution. A group of lawmakers from the opposition Harmony party filed a complaint with the Constitutional Court, claiming that the legislative amendments represented an infringement on teachers' freedom of expression.But the Constitutional Court ruled that the obligation for teachers to be loyal to Latvia was not discriminatory.
