RIGA - Foreign Ministry State Secretary Andris Pelss and Brazil's non-resident Ambassador to Latvia Maria Edileuza Fontenele Reis agreed during a meeting on the necessity to promote economic relations between the two countries.

As LETA was told at the Foreign Ministry, Pelss thanked the ambassador, who has arrived in Latvia on an accreditation visit, for the third political consultations held in Brasilia in February, while stressing the importance of regular consultations for the development of bilateral relations.

The diplomats agreed that bilateral economic relations should be promoted with the focus on the areas such as information and communication technologies. The meeting also addressed possibilities for strengthening cooperation in international organizations.

The state secretary drew attention to the important role played by the Latvian community in Brazil in promoting the visibility of both the countries, including their economic dialogue. Brazil is home to the largest Latvian community in South America.

The Brazilian ambassador resides in Stockholm, Sweden. The Ambassador’s accreditation with President Edgars Rinkevics has been scheduled for March 19.
