Latvia takes down Germany at Ice Hockey World Championship

HERNING - The Latvian national ice hockey team defeated Germany today 3:1 at the Ice Hockey World Championships.

Ronalds Kenins, Guntis Galvins and Andris Dzerins scored the goals for Latvia.

Dominik Kahun scored the lone goal for Germany.

In the Group B standings at the moment, the United States is in first place with 13 points, followed by Canada with 10 points, Finland with nine points, Latvia with nine, Denmark with eight points, Germany with five points, Norway with three points and South Korea with zero points.

Latvia will play its next group match on Monday against Canada and its final group match against Denmark on Tuesday.

The top four teams in the group will advance to the tournament's quarterfinals.

This is the 22nd year in a row Latvia is be playing in the Elite Division of the IIHF World Championship. Latvia finished in tenth place in the last year's tournament.
