RIGA - Latvia's foreign policy priorities are security, support for Ukraine and strengthening Euro-Atlantic ties, President Edgars Rinkevics said during a meeting with Foreign Minister Baiba Braze (New Unity) on Friday.
As the president's spokesman Martins Dregeris told LETA, the meeting between the president and the minister focused on foreign policy issues, including the security policy agenda and the promotion of external economic relations in 2026.
During the meeting, Rinkevics and Braze also discussed the foreign minister's report to the Saeima on foreign policy in 2025 and activities planned in the framework of Latvia's foreign policy and in relation to European Union (EU) affairs in 2026. The annual debate on the foreign policy report is scheduled to take place in the Saeima on January 29.
Rinkevics stressed that Latvia's foreign policy priorities are strengthening security and Euro-Atlantic ties, supporting Ukraine, defending Latvia's interests in negotiations on the EU multiannual budget for 2028-2034, and boosting the country's competitiveness, for example by organizing foreign visits with the participation of Latvian businesspeople.
