Latvia's daily Covid-19 case count jumps above 9,000

RIGA - Latvia confirmed 9,143 new Covid-19 cases and 14 Covid-19 related deaths on Tuesday, the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) informed.

Compared to the previous daily record of 6,097 cases, which was set just a day earlier, the number of new cases grew by 50 percent on Tuesday. 

In 24 hours, Latvia's cumulative two-week number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 population jumped from 2,885.8 to 3,239.9.

Of the latest Covid-19 victims, one was in the age group of 40 to 49 years, three were 60 to 69 years old, four 70 to 79 years old, four 80 to 89 years old, and two were 90 to 99 years old. Ten of these people were unvaccinated or had not completed their vaccination course and four were fully vaccinated.

Covid-19 has so far killed 4,828 people in Latvia.

Of the new Covid-19 cases confirmed on Tuesday, 4,004 people were unvaccinated or had not completed their vaccination course and 5,139 people, or 56.2 percent, were fully vaccinated.

Of the 28,009 people tested for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, 32.6 percent were diagnosed with the infection, which is also a new record.

According to LETA's estimates, there are currently 61,339 active Covid-19 cases in Latvia.

Since the start of the pandemic, Latvian has confirmed a total of 354,734 Covid-19 cases.
