RIGA - The Latvian Olympic Committee (LOC) on Wednesday received an official invitation for the Latvian team to participate in the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympic Games.
The LOC informs that the package was opened on Wednesday during a meeting of the LOC Executive Committee.
"We are delighted to receive this invitation. It is even more gratifying that we already know about the participation of our ice hockey team in the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympic Games," said LOC President Raimonds Lazdins.
He also expressed optimism about the chances of other Latvian winter sports to take part in the Games.
The Latvian men's ice hockey team has already secured its participation in the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympic Games. Athletes in other winter sports disciplines will continue to compete for Olympic places until January 18, 2026.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) traditionally sends out an invitation to national Olympic committees one year before the Games.
The Winter Olympic Games will open on February 6, 2026 in Milan and close on February 22 in Venice.
