RIGA - Today marks 25 years since the complete withdrawal of Russian troops from the territory of Latvia.

On August 31, 1995, Russian officials notified then President Guntis Ulmanis that the withdrawal of Russian armed forces from the territory of Latvia was complete.

Only one Russian military facility remained in Latvia - the radio locator station in Skrunda, which was vacated in 1998. Its adjacent recently-built radar was symbolically imploded on May 4, 1995 - an event attracting considerable media and public attention.

An event marking the anniversary will be held at the Latvian War Museum today.
