RIGA - Latvia is interested in closer bilateral relations with Kosovo, as well as within European and transatlantic structures, President Egils Levits emphasized.

Justine Deicmane, Head of the Media Center of the Office of the President, told LETA that on Friday, Levits met with Kosovo's Prime Minister Albin Kurti in Pristina, confirming Latvia's support for Kosovo in further reforms and closer cooperation in the fields of defense, economy and transatlantic security.

The President emphasized that Kosovo could count on Latvia's consistent support on the paths towards European Union, membership in the Council of Europe and within the NATO Partnership for Peace program, as well as other formats.

Discussing the security situation in Europe, Levits and Kurti agreed that Russia's criminal war in Ukraine calls for a strengthening of the European security architecture in order to guarantee lasting peace and prevent future aggression.
