Latvia is currently participating in three international civilian missions with 25 civilian experts

RIGA - Latvia is currently participating in three international civilian missions with 25 civilian experts, LETA was informed by the Foreign Ministry.

At the moment, nine civilian experts from Latvia are participating in the EU Advisory Mission to Ukraine on Civil Security Sector Reforms.

Eight civilian experts are also participating in the EU Observation Mission in Georgia, while another eight are participating in the OSCE Observation Mission in Ukraine.

The Latvian civilian experts are specialists in the fields of foreign affairs, interior affairs and public administration. The experts are approved by the Latvian government and are tasked with providing support and advice to countries in crisis. Thus, Latvia makes a practical contribution to the promotion of international peace and security and to the strengthening of the order based on international law.

According to the Foreign Ministry, it is planned to increase the number of civilian experts in the next few years to 30 for EU, OSCE, United Nations and NATO international missions and operations.
