RIGA - Latvia has supported Ukraine’s request to convene a meeting of the UN Security Council, Foreign Minister Baiba Braze (New Unity) announced on social media.
The foreign minister emphasized that more than 60 civilians have been killed and many others wounded in Russian attacks over the past 48 hours.
Braze stressed that Russia is unable to win on the battlefield and is resorting to terror against civilians. The meeting on Ukraine will take place on Friday at 10 p.m. Latvian time.
The UN Security Council adopts legally binding resolutions for UN member states regarding the imposition of sanctions, military action, and peacekeeping. The permanent members of the UN Security Council are the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Russia, and China, all of which have veto power.
As previously reported, on Thursday night, the Russians launched 136 attack drones and decoy drones toward Ukraine. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, 93 of the unmanned aerial vehicles were jet-powered drones.
Ukrainian air defenses shot down or neutralized 114 enemy drones, including 77 jet-powered ones.
Impacts were detected in seven districts. In seven other districts, debris from downed drones caused damage.
