RIGA - Latvia does not recognize so-called “local elections” in the Russia’s illegally occupied and annexed Crimea and Sevastopol, said Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics in a Twitter post.
He said that Latvian maintains unwavering support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.
As reported, several Russian regions held elections on September 11-13. In 41 regions, voters elected governors and regional assemblies, while in four regions there were by-elections for national MPs.
Independent election observers organization Golos reported that observers are not allowed to access documents, complain about fraud with ballot slips. There are also concerns that the early voting introduced due to the coronavirus has made it easier to falsify the results.
