RIGA - Latvia and the Nordic countries are planning to expand cooperation in the field of civic participation and education for young people, focusing on youth involvement in democratic processes and regional cooperation, the Education and Science Ministry informed LETA.
On Wednesday, Education and Science Minister Dace Melbarde (New Unity) met with Nina Hvid Enevoldsen, Director of the Nordic Council of Ministers' Office in Latvia.
The talks focused on the Signal Elections project, which gives young people a practical opportunity to learn about the electoral process and raises awareness about political and public participation. The project is supported by the Nordic Council of Ministers and the Education and Science Ministers and will be presented at a media event on January 28.
The meeting also discussed the possible extension of the Nordic Council of Ministers' Norden 0-30 program to Baltic youth organizations. This could increase opportunities for Latvian young people to participate in Nordic cooperation projects and promote exchange of experience.
The results of the Nordplus program were also positively assessed, showing that Latvian educational institutions are increasingly active in cooperation with the Nordic and Baltic countries. The importance of closer Nordic-Baltic cooperation in education, science, and youth, especially in the current geopolitical situation, was underlined.
