Large Ukrainian flag unrolled at Freedom Monument

RIGA - Continuing the Ukraine Week in Riga, the Flag for Peace in Ukraine event took place near the Freedom Monument on Thursday, during which a 30-meter-long Ukrainian flag was unrolled, the Riga City Council's Communications Department informed LETA.

The event was attended by Ukrainian Ambassador to Latvia Olexandr Mischenko, Riga Mayor Martins Stakis (Progressives/For), Vice-Mayors Edvards Smiltens (Latvian Association of Regions) and Linda Ozola (New Conservative Party), Riga City Council members, representatives of the Foreign Ministry and Defense Ministry, and Saeima members.

Participants in the event also sang the anthems of Latvia and Ukraine.

Mischenko repeatedly thanked Latvia and Riga for their solidarity with the Ukrainian people, as well as the entire world for standing up for Ukraine.

Ukraine Week will end on Sunday, February 20, when people are invited to come and light candles in the courtyard of the Ukrainian Embassy at 3 Kalpaka Boulevard from 12 noon to 6 p.m.
