TALLINN – Nordic combined athlete Kristjan Ilves won the ski jumping portion of the event at the Milano Cortina Olympics on Wednesday and will be the first to start the cross-country ski race.
Kristjan Ilves, who has struggled on the jumping hill for the past two years, was in fine form during this competition. He jumped 99 meters despite very unfavorable tailwinds, earning him 132.6 points.
The cross-country race is expected to be very challenging, however, as Ilves will start just 15 seconds ahead of Thomas Rettenegger. Furthermore, a group of strong skiers, including both Oftebro brothers, Lamparter, Geiger, and Herola, will start between 20 and 32 seconds behind Ilves.
Teder, who jumped 90 meters and scored 101.3 points, finished 30th out of 36 competitors.
The cross-country portion of the event is scheduled to begin on Wednesday at 2:45 p.m.
