RIGA - "A Description of Our Homeland" (Musu tevzemes aprakstisana), a book written by Krisjanis Barons, the creator of the Cabinet of Folksongs whose work has been inscribed on UNESCO's Memory of the World Register, and other Latvians, has been published in English, as Ziedonis Museum's representative Kristiana Salnaja informed LETA.
The English-language edition is one of the books to inform the international community about Latvia's path to independence in the 19th century. Zanete Grende, the head of the Ziedonis Museum, said that few people knew that Barons was also the author of a geography book, which he co-wrote with Juris Alunans and Krisjanis Valdemars.
The English edition of "A Description of Our Homeland" in English includes articles by historian and Professor Emeritus of the University of Iowa Andrejs Plakans, Estonian historian and Associate Professor Lea Leppik, and Kaunas Vytautas Magnus University Professor Alvydas Butkus.
