RIGA - Fighting the Covid-19 pandemic in the current stage, people should focus on individual protection and the country should gradually phase out collective restrictions, said Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins (New Unity) after the government meeting today.

He said that every person should understand that the best protection against Covid-19 is a booster shot, correct use of face masks and frequent testing.

"We should phase out public restrictions, economic restrictions that cost us much and move towards individual protection that does not cost as much, and we can do it. Like other European countries we can live with this virus, strengthening our individuals and thus also collective protection without unnecessary external restrictions. That is the direction I believe we should take," said Karins.

As reported, the Cabinet of Ministers plans to agree on easing the epidemiological restrictions during its next meeting on February 15. At the same time, Karins said that if necessary, the government meeting on this matter could be convened also sooner.
