RIGA - The victory by centrist Emmanuel Macron in the French presidential elections is a great gift to the EU on Europe Day, said Latvia’s MEP Sandra Kalniete (Unity) in an interview with commercial LNT television on Monday.
She said that Macron’s task will be difficult – to implement the promised reforms, for example, cutting the number of public officials.
The French economic situation is not very good, and this country is in need of reforms, while nobody so far has succeeded with rapid reforms, said Kalniete.
As reported, centrist candidate Emmanuel Macron has decisively won the French presidential election, defeating far-right candidate Marine Le Pen.
