Italian president to visit Latvia in early July

RIGA - Italian President Sergio Mattarella and his daughter Laura Mattarella are due to arrive in Latvia on a state visit on July 3, LETA was told at the Latvian president’s office.

The visit will be dedicated to the centenary of Latvia’s statehood and aimed at strengthening bilateral ties, as well as cooperation in the European Union (EU) and NATO.

During the visit, the Italian president and his daughter are scheduled to meet with Latvian President Raimonds Vejonis and First Lady Iveta Vejone at Riga Castle, lay flowers at the Freedom Monument and donate books for the People’s Bookshelf at the National Library of Latvia.

The presidential couples of the two countries are also expected to attend the unveiling of an exhibition on Latvia’s international recognition at the National Library of Latvia and see the exhibition “Ciao! Niklavs Strunke in Italy. The 1920s” at the Latvian National Museum of Art.
