RIGA - It is essential to negotiate conditions for security guarantees that would be acceptable to Ukraine, according to members of the Saeima National Security Committee.
As LETA was told at the Saeima press office, the Saeima National Security Committee today heard Foreign Minister Baiba Braze (New Unity) and Defense Minister Andris Spruds (Progressives) on the topics to be discussed today at a meeting of the coalition of the willing in Paris, France.
The meeting's agenda includes continued support for Ukraine, strengthening security guarantees, and a common position toward a just and lasting peace in Europe.
Members of the Saeima National Security Committee underlined the importance of achieving acceptable security guarantees for Ukraine, which include both the strengthening of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and allied countries' support in monitoring compliance with the peace agreement and further deepening long-term cooperation.
The US has a major role to play in developing and implementing these plans, but the support and contribution of each member of the coalition of the willing will be equally important, said Ainars Latkovskis (New Unity), chairman of the Saeima National Security Committee.
Latkovskis pointed out that Latvia has been a steadfast ally of Ukraine since the first day of the war, and Ukraine can count on Latvia's undivided support in this long and difficult process, both at the executive and parliamentary levels.
