The IT company “Helmes Latvia” has launched a large-scale resource management system project by implementing the SAP platform at Riga Technical University (RTU). This system enables companies, institutions, and organizations to integrate and manage their core business processes (such as financial management, human resources, etc.) within a unified digital environment. The solution ensures centralized, modern, and efficient data and resource management, based on globally recognized technology.
The SAP technological platform provides centralized, real-time data management for every operational area of a specific company or institution: financial management, procurement, human resource management, customer relations, and more. The solution helps improve work efficiency by managing complex business processes. This means that all departments and functions within an organization operate in a single system, allowing data to flow freely between them. Instead of using separate applications for each function, SAP connects financial accounting, bookkeeping, HR management, employee data, project tracking, as well as industry-specific solutions – in the case of education, for example, the management of the student and study lifecycle, research-focused solutions, and more.
“We are pleased to support RTU by implementing and maintaining not only a technically robust system but also a sustainable solution designed for future growth. SAP is one of the world’s leading enterprise resource planning solutions, and its implementation in a higher education institution marks a significant step forward in digitalization and process optimization. Our team will also carry out data migration, system integration, and staff training phases, ensuring the solution is not only implemented but also fully utilized. The company’s experience in implementing and developing large-scale systems allows us to combine world-class technology with local needs,” says Viesturs Bulāns, CEO of “Helmes Latvia”.
“At RTU, we have set a strategic goal not only to develop our core operations – studies, science, and innovation – but also to join the ranks of the world’s top universities in the fields of IT and digitalization. By choosing a solution used by leading universities worldwide, RTU aligns itself with world-class technology. The implementation of the most suitable IT solution for the university will improve the integration of IT systems, process integration, data automation, and data analysis. The benefits will be felt not only by RTU staff but also by students and the university’s partners, as IT processes will become more efficient,” explains RTU Rector Tālis Juhna.
The “Helmes Latvia” team will implement the SAP system at RTU in several stages, with plans to integrate human resources, financial, accounting, and project financial management functions. The implementation of these core SAP resource management functionalities ensures flexibility and alignment with the university’s future development needs. The project is being carried out in collaboration with the HR management company “Zalaris HR Services Latvia” and the technology company “Solwit”.
The project is part of a broader initiative — “Implementation of Consolidation and Governance Changes at Riga Technical University, Liepaja University, Rezekne Academy of Technologies, Latvian Maritime Academy, and Liepaja Marine College to Advance Excellence in Higher Education, Science, and Innovation”, supported by the European Union Recovery Fund.
