Inspectorate promises to advise companies on compliance with GDPR

Companies in breach of the new EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will first be given advice on how to correct the non-compliance and will be penalized only for intentional violations. Lauris Linebergs, a representative of the Latvian Data State Inspectorate, said at a news conference today that the inspectorate would keep to the Consultation First principle but the companies would face penalties for gross violations of the GDPR or the Latvian laws.
