Indriksone to meet with Ukrainian government representatives this week to discuss economic cooperation

RIGA - Economics Minister Ilze Indriksone (National Alliance) will meet with representatives of the Ukrainian government this week to discuss economic cooperation opportunities, as the Economics Ministry told LETA.

A delegation of Ukrainian government representatives and businessmen will be visiting Riga on Wednesday and Thursday, headed by the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers Secretary Oleh Nemchinov. During the visit, the Ukrainian delegation will have several meetings with the Latvian economics minister and businessmen to discuss reconstruction of Ukraine and the potential for strengthening and expanding bilateral economic cooperation between the two countries.

The Ukrainian government delegation will participate in the Latvian-Ukrainian intergovernmental commission's meeting on economic, industrial, scientific and technical cooperation, as well as meet with several high-level Latvian officials to discuss cooperation opportunities.

"Since the first days of the war, Latvia has always been supporting Ukraine and we will continue to provide all the necessary support for Ukraine as long as necessary. At the same time, we also continue to work on the maintenance and development of bilateral economic relations," says Indriksone.

During this meeting, also discussed will be the negotiations started in Warsaw on Latvian businessmen's involvement in reconstruction of Ukraine, specifically in Chernihiv region, says Indriksone.

Indriksone will have a bilateral meeting with Nemchinov on Thursday. Also on Thursday, a delegation of Ukrainian government representatives will visit construction fair Maja I 2023 at Kipsala International Exhibition Center. At the fair, the two ministers will take part in opening of a Ukrainian businessmen's stand, as well as meet with Latvian construction industry representatives and representatives of several non-governmental organizations.

Later on Thursday, the Latvian-Ukrainian intergovernmental commission will meet to discuss expanding economic cooperation between the two countries in such areas as transport, digital transformation, energy, clean technology, space, education and science, and others. They will also talk about Latvia's support for reconstruction of Ukraine. Following the meeting, Nemchinov and Indriksone will give a joint press conference.

The Investment and Development Agency of Latvia will on Thursday organize a seminar at Radisson Blu Hotel Latvija to address Latvian businesses that wish to participate in reconstruction of Ukraine.

During the visit to Latvia, Nemchinov will also have meetings with Defense Minister Inara Murniece (National Alliance), Transport Minister Janis Vitenbergs (National Alliance) and Climate and Energy Minister Raimonds Cudars (New Unity), as well as with representatives of the energy and transport industries to discuss possibilities of expanding bilateral cooperation.
