In Wonderland Festival of Lights Arrives in Sigulda this week

  • 2022-01-31

The biggest giant lantern festival In Wonderland arrives in Latvia. From 4 February to 13 March, the Sigulda Castle Square and the Castle Ruins will be the place to experience one of the most spectacular light festivals in Northern Europe.

The theme of the festival is inspired by Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. The whole family will have the opportunity to experience the parallel, magical reality created by light effects and silk sculptures. The festival will present more than 300 light objects of different colours and sizes, made from thousands of metres of silk fabric and millions of light bulbs. Each light sculpture has its own story, bringing to life magical creatures, fairy-tale animals and plants. The music composed specifically for the festival by electronic music composer and performer Leon Somov will create an even more memorable experience.

The festival of lights In Wonderland is a celebration that brightens the dark of winter by bringing light and joy to children and adults. The festival organisers note that this will be the first time that Latvia will have the opportunity to see handmade large-scale silk sculptures that glow in every colour of the rainbow. There will be a chance to meet a rabbit, the Cheshire cat from Alice in Wonderland, giant glowing mushrooms, a magical forest of flowers and many other fairytale creatures and beings.

Visitors can also explore creative workshops of craftsmen in the Sigulda Castle Square, enjoy hot drinks and visit the Sigulda New Castle (for an additional entrance fee). Dive into an unforgettable adventure of lights and see you IN WONDERLAND!
