RIGA - The Health Ministry is currently at work on a strategy for tackling a  possible fresh Covid-19 wave this fall, Health Minister Daniels Pavluts (Development/For) said in an interview with TV3 channel Friday.

The minister informed that the plan includes ten sections and that the ministry is basically preparing for four possible scenarios, ranging from "everything is very quiet" to an "uncontrollable outbreak" raging in Latvia.

"Depending on how seriously the situation will develop, we will be ready to vaccinate and introduce various safety measures as needed. For now, I would not want to scare anybody. We will act according to the situation. We will be ready, and I hope that other services will be ready as well," the minister said.

Pavluts underlined the plan to vaccinate elderly people against Covid-19, as statistics show that seniors are especially vulnerable to the infection.

The minister also said that Latvia has sufficient stocks of Covid-19 vaccines.
