RIGA - Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Health Ministry's operative medical committee meeting on Friday decided to declare the state of high readiness in the health care sector, LETA learned from the Health Ministry.

The ministry said that the state of high readiness means that the available personnel, material and other resources ar insufficient to ensure all necessary reactive measures and at the same time continue work of hospitals as usual.

We are getting ready for reorganizing work, also local hospitals will start admitting Covid-19 patients, said Health Minister Daniels Pavluts (For Development/For) in a Twitter post. This is not yet the state of emergency.

Thus, the Emergency Medical Service will prioritize calls in line with the set algorithms, while hospitals should first ensure assistance to emergency, accute and Covid-19 patients.

If necessary, hospitals will restrict scheduled in-patient and out-patient services. At the same time, there are services that may not be interrupted - chemotherapy, organ replacement therapy and the like.
