TALLINN – The chairman of the Estonian parliament's committee on foreign affairs, Marko Mihkelson, said in a social media post he believes that Russia's defeat in Ukraine will help prevent a third world war.

"Russia must itself suffer a strategic defeat as a result of the unprovoked war of destruction of its own making. We have no other alternative if we want a more lasting peace in Europe or want to avoid a new world war," Mihkelson wrote on social media over the weekend.

"Russia's strategic defeat means, first and foremost, that it will not be able, in the foreseeable future, to militarily attack its neighbors, change borders by force, threaten the world with nuclear war, or break the foundations of the rules-based world order," the MP said.

According to Mihkelson, although the road to this goal is extremely difficult, the alternative is even more terrifying.
