RIGA - The Cabinet of Ministers on Tuesday supported the amendments to the law on circulation of alcoholic beverages, providing that alcoholic drinks can now be sold online.
The amendments should be adopted by the parliament.
The Economics Ministry that has prepared the amendments, said that the new regulations will ensure availability of products of Latvia's small alcoholic beverages products, easing work on many stores and promote development of the sector. Products of small producers often are not represented at retail stores which mean that it is hard to buy them, and development of these businesses is difficult, the ministry said.
When selling alcoholic beverages on the internet, merchants will have to receive a license from the State Revenue Service, only non-cash payments are allowed in these purchases, and sellers or delivery service providers will have to check the buyer's identity and age.
