RIGA - The Cabinet of Ministers on Tuesday supported the proposal of the Health Ministry to sell or donate 560,000 AstraZeneca vaccines and up to 84,000 Pfizer/BioNTech vaccines which should be used up by the end of October, Health Minister Daniels Pavluts (For Development) reported.

He said that the government prefers to sell the vaccine, but, if no partners are found, the vaccines could also be donated. "This matter will be solved by the Health Ministry in cooperation with the Foreign Ministry who sets the foreign policy priorities," said Pavluts.

"The Health Ministry has collected information on possible scenarios for demands for vaccines. We see that we would be able to vaccinate up to 95 percent of Latvian residents by the end of the year, also providing for a possibility for re-vaccination of smaller or larger groups of people with the third dose," the minister said, adding that Latvia has sufficient amounts of Covid-19 vaccines.
