Government support reallocation of EUR 167 million to raise healthcare workers' salaries and ensure continuity of healthcare services

RIGA - The Cabinet of Ministers on Tuesday supported reallocation of EUR 167 million in order to increase salaries of medical workers from January 2024, improve the quality of healthcare services and implement other measures previously approved by both the government and Saeima while discussing the 2024 state budget, the Health Ministry informed LETA.

The funds will be earmarked for remuneration and education of medical personnel, improving access to and quality of healthcare services, access to reimbursable medicines, improving cancer treatment services, maternal and child health, mental health, implementing preventive measures and others.

In accordance with the decision the government took today, salaries of healthcare workers will increase from January 2024: the average monthly salary for physicians will increase by EUR 225, for nursing staff by EUR 85 and for auxiliary staff by EUR 60.
