Government approves reduced VAT on vegetables, higher benefits for large families

The Cabinet of Latvian Ministers approved a number of priorities put forward by different ministries concerning the 2018 state budget, including raising salaries for university and college lecturers, reducing value added tax on vegetables, fruit and berries common in Latvia, and increasing benefits for large families. Following the government's decision to postpone construction of Liepaja Prison until 2020, the fiscal space next year will increase from EUR 81 million to EUR 117 million. An extra EUR 144 million will be allotted to healthcare in 2020...
