RIGA - Opposition Saeima members have collected the necessary number of signatures to demand Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins' (New Unity) resignation, opposition lawmaker Aldis Gobzems (Law and Order) announced on social networks Thursday.

The no-confidence motion has been signed by Law and Order members Gobzems, Julija Stepanova, Karina Sprude and Lubova Svecova, as well as several MPs of the Union of Greens and Farmers - Viktors Valainis, Armands Krauze, Edgars Tavars, Uldis Augulis, Janis Duklavs and Janina Jalinska.

The opposition MPs argue that Karins has to be removed from office for a failure to comply with the law and the parliament's decisions. "Let me remind you that a public official's inaction in breach of the law and the Saeima's decisions is and will be a criminal offense," Gobzems said.

According to the Saeima Rules of Procedure, a non-confidence motion against the prime minister can be initiated by a group of at least ten MPs.
