Getlini opens ‘biggest and most modern’ waste separation plant in the Baltics

RIGA - With a drum roll on a percussion kit made entirely from recovered rubbish, a brand new waste separation facility was officially opened this week at the site of the Getlini landfill, in the outskirts of Riga. No fewer than five high-level politicians were present to deliver congratulatory speeches bordering on the hyperbolic: Latvia’s president Raimonds Vejonis, Riga mayor Nils Usakovs, vice-mayor Andris Ameriks, Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development Kaspars Gerhards, and Stopini municipality (where Getlini is officially located) chairman Janis Pumpurs.&#...
